Counting our Blessings

Turkey? Up and ready to begin the day sometime after o-dark-thirty.

Dressing? Ditto.

Cranberry sauce? Check.

Potatoes? To be mashed.

Gravy? Yet to be made.

Biscuits? Last minute touches.

Pie? Oh, my!

And we'll be all ready to enjoy the feast, re-enacting our traditional, annual meal.

More than that checklist, though, is the mental list of recalling all our blessings throughout the past year and beyond. Sometimes, that takes time to recall, but when those special moments come to mind, it's a good remembrance. There are times when I am overwhelmed by the consideration of what could have been, but turned out so much better...

No matter where your memories of the past take you, here's a wish for an enjoyable day spent with those who mean the most to you: happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Jacqi! I'm involved in a discussion and would like your opinion. is Thanksgiving a pie holiday? It always was in my house but one year my sister in law brought cheesecake. I remember one year with 9 different pies but I can only name 8. Would love your feedback!

    1. Kat, what an interesting discussion! I can't say that I've ever run into an authoritarian article stating the official designation of a "pie holiday." In my own experience, I've never known Thanksgiving to be anything but a pie sort of day, but perhaps there are some who know differently. If so, I'd love to hear it!

However, cut your sister-in-law some slack. Cheesecake is not exactly what I'd consider a "cake," so perhaps it could be considered a sort of hybrid: named cake, but acting very much like a filled pie (think banana or coconut creme).

A Thanksgiving with nine different pies must have been a banner year for your family's gathering. I'm not sure I could name nine pies, myself!
