That is helpful to know the building was actually known as the police barrack. With that frame of reference, I would have loved to see the actual Mason family house, itself.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-47241025190602930562016-05-22T18:07:48.698-07:002016-05-22T18:07:48.698-07:00Paul, I would love to compare notes with you. I recognize that two story building in the photo commonly known as an Old Police's Barracks. The police barrack was used to guard the Mason Family's house known as Cappanahane House, which was located near by. Hope this helps you, I'm John Donegan by the way.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10463636221284470895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-28799295955410887912014-10-16T12:27:00.547-07:002014-10-16T12:27:00.547-07:00There may still be a way, Iggy--by superimposing a...There may still be a way, Iggy--by superimposing a modern map over the maps from the Primary Valuation. Also, I believe both you and Dara have sent me links to map sources, so I will poke around there to see what may be found.

Then, too, there may be another way. Thanks to the connecting power of the Internet, I've been recently comparing notes with a possible cousin who contacted me because of these blog posts. She is asking family members who remember the area to take a look at the photos we've taken.

And I'm beginning to find additional records through my searching here in Dublin. It's an awesome feeling to handle the documents that tell of our own relatives from so long ago.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-84800147932775599312014-10-16T06:57:23.956-07:002014-10-16T06:57:23.956-07:00Did your daughter tell you that sometimes the &quo...Did your daughter tell you that sometimes the "expensive and food providing" animals were often let inside on the ground floor?

:) Too bad you can't determine if this "is the place"!!Intense Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08441598926026727682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-37275755284039824052014-10-11T16:54:17.701-07:002014-10-11T16:54:17.701-07:00In the stormy weather on the day we drove by, in i...In the stormy weather on the day we drove by, in its current condition, it looked almost creepy, but yes, Far Side, I imagine it was quite the place in its heyday.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-25467705373829248392014-10-11T16:52:34.419-07:002014-10-11T16:52:34.419-07:00Unfortunately, Jennifer, there were no delightful ...Unfortunately, Jennifer, there were no delightful neighbors to chat with anywhere near this place. Likely, in 1849 at the time of Stephen Malloy's hasty emigration, his wife was either a servant or tenant on the Mason estate. Now, other than this building, there are only a few crumbling walls and outbuildings scattered along the road to this property still remaining as telltale signs of what once existed here on this country road.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-9998327897253281242014-10-11T12:06:35.560-07:002014-10-11T12:06:35.560-07:00That's what comes from supporting a college st...That's what comes from supporting a college student through her studies in history and anthropology.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-58633811077299422512014-10-11T11:20:51.085-07:002014-10-11T11:20:51.085-07:00Looks like a wonderful old house to me, it must ha...Looks like a wonderful old house to me, it must have been quite grand in it's day:)Far Side of Fiftyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07995757632158408442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-55324699745413740412014-10-11T06:57:06.416-07:002014-10-11T06:57:06.416-07:00What a fascinating journey today. It sounds like your relative was living in John Mason's household or was perhaps nearby, one of his tenants, or a possible distant relative.
