And you are right: the penmanship people are accustomed to using in those other countries may be quite different than what we are used to seeing. Couple that with fading documents and less-than-stellar writing implements, and it all combines to give us a recipe for reading disaster. But...we still try, don't we?!Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-15778996773194795482020-07-09T16:36:29.226-07:002020-07-09T16:36:29.226-07:00I’ve struggled with deciphering French Canadian Ca...I’ve struggled with deciphering French Canadian Catholic Church records, in spite of my ability to read and speak French. It’s the penmanship that catches me up most of the time. I haven’t dug into my Irish roots yet so it’s good to know there will be interesting twists with names, etc.Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06412341664506380343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-28023198966435817602020-06-26T22:45:12.892-07:002020-06-26T22:45:12.892-07:00Impressive, Far Side! I took five years of Spanish in high school, yet can barely get beyond buenos dias.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-5148797230409446292020-06-26T21:59:39.324-07:002020-06-26T21:59:39.324-07:00I took three years of Latin a long time ago:)I took three years of Latin a long time ago:)Far Side of Fiftyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07995757632158408442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-21383866816241770782020-06-24T21:35:42.008-07:002020-06-24T21:35:42.008-07:00Oh, Kat, I'm so jealous! I really go partly for the social aspect; I love getting to meet people who love my fav subject as much as I do!

Interesting to see the Dingle Peninsula Facebook admin is a Falvey. I saw somewhere--I think it was on John Grenham's old Irish Times website--that Falvey is a common surname in that area. Who knows? Maybe a distant cousin ;)Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-81428893729106000092020-06-24T04:43:54.827-07:002020-06-24T04:43:54.827-07:00Latin is a killer! I am at GRIP "in Pittsburgh " this week taking Irish Research with David Rencher This is my first institute so disappointing that it ended up being virtual but still an incredible experience. The trick with irishgenealogy.ie is you can search for 2 surnames together and the sponsors are indexed. I just joined Dingle Peninsula Genealogy on FB Admin I'd Thomas Falvey Kathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05044686016540032438noreply@blogger.com
