It has certainly taught me that the image we hold in our minds about orphans from past generations may not be entirely the way our imaginations (or cultural preconceptions) paint things. I've found quite a few clues as to parentage of orphans in newspapers and other records, showing that being an orphan does not mean the closed doors for researchers we presume it means.<br /><br />I wish you well in researching your second great grandmother!
