It seems like they all had their own world, though--very supportive of each other.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-24306390141433701482013-10-10T01:19:26.567-07:002013-10-10T01:19:26.567-07:00Thanks for the Kelly update that I love to follow!...Thanks for the Kelly update that I love to follow! It also breaks my heart to see a trail of tears on each census. Heartbreaking to see how many deaths occurred until the next census. My family was all railroad in Red Bank, NJ. When my g uncle died in 1917 his obit said he wad a window washer and worked in the roundhouse. The whole family for a few generations worked for the RR. My g aunt is still collecting my g uncles RR pension.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04253477173808426796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-27940439374779875652013-10-09T21:05:35.442-07:002013-10-09T21:05:35.442-07:00With your wonderful story today about your parents...With your wonderful story today about your parents' sixty-third wedding anniversary, Far Side, I imagine you've heard many such stories of families sticking together through thick and thin. That's a kind of bonding that's not talked about much now--you're right about that.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-50769258128990466402013-10-09T21:00:01.417-07:002013-10-09T21:00:01.417-07:00Interesting comparison, Iggy. Trains are powerhouses that can work wonders, but it's a disaster when things go wrong with railroads.Jacqi Stevenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03471698670217119444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-3269649799775563492013-10-09T20:56:34.315-07:002013-10-09T20:56:34.315-07:00Our older relatives--especially those living in ci...Our older relatives--especially those living in cities--have mentioned that same thing, Colleen. In many cases, the "extended" in "extended families" meant some of them lived around the block, not around the world. The New York Times reported 9,984 deaths in 1900 alone. The mayhem must have been frightful! Of course, automobile deaths, even today, are mind-staggering; 43,000 in 2005 (in the USA alone).Intense Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08441598926026727682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5034998384799920884.post-46039994016416166772013-10-09T05:37:08.524-07:002013-10-09T05:37:08.524-07:00Newly weds living with the family, especially a wi...Newly weds living with the family, especially a widow, is not too unusual.
